positives
Number one is the price point on the 9.9mm BD rope. It is really cheap in cost without being really cheap in construction. We have been using it now for the summer/winter seasons to set on top tope anchor and so far have no complains. Black Diamond did really well here. We actually bought a 70m rope and cut it in half to be used at our local gym.
It gives soft catches and performs well for lead climbing at the gym. At about $150 on Amazon for the 60m rope that’s a pretty darn good entry level cost!
The ropes come with a standard pre-marked center point. For a new climber learning how to clean and rappel this is a bonus. Granted you can simply purchase a rope marking ink having a rope that comes with that feature is kinda nice.
It has a UIAA fall rating of 6 and Dynamic elongation of 32%. Both pretty good numbers especially when it comes to new leaders and taking falls.
negatives
The 9.9mm rope is not dry treated so we would definitely not use it for ice climbing or mountaineering. It’s definitely not the lightest rope on the market however it has proven to be durable for us. Over 80 top rope routes thus far on one of our ropes and it is still doing very well.
Definitely not a super car when it comes to ropes. More like a Honda Accord. Pretty nice and will last a long time. :-)
Overall
Pretty great for the price and we have been using it for a while now. It’s still working well for our guides. No complaints coming from the field.
